About Rough Ride Guide

About Rough Ride Guide

Started in 2005 with the publishing of Rough Rides in the South East, other books have followed since all with our signature ring-binder format allowing routes to be removed and taken out on rides. Our mission still remains the same: to get people out riding! This may be with family, friends or just solo and we hope that with our guidebooks and maybe a product or some advice from our website we can help make that happen. Perhaps you may even feel that you would like to have a go at doing a mountain biking event at some point and we hope that our web site will provide a source of information about such things going on. Now we’ve got our new web site things have moved up a gear and we look forward to seeing what the next phase will bring.. By the way, please feel free to contact us with any comments, feedback or pictures!

About Me

About Me

I’ve always kind of done my own thing (as my school teachers would agree...) and I started Rough Ride Guide in 2005 when I wrote and published Rough Rides to the South East – a mountain bike equivalent to ‘the storm riders guide’ we used to use to find surf spots around the UK with! I’ve also been working with the British Heart Foundation since 2008 to help design and run various off road events which has proved to be a lot of fun and brought some great trips and experiences for me and the company.

I’ve been riding in one form or another all my life really but I properly got into mountain biking when I lived in Bristol in the late 90’s. Short blasts around Ashton Court and Leigh Woods, trips out to the Mendips and Cheddar ignited a passion that has awesomely grown into a career for me.

The arrival of my two sons Charlie and Harry has probably changed my use of free time riding a bit - but it’s all good they love to come out in the trailer with me and Charlie (aged 5) even entered his first race this year at the Big Bike Bash! I still get to go out riding with mates locally (mostly in the Chilterns) which is great and I’ve felt privileged to have had some really great adventures (and get paid for them!) working for the BHF.
