Lakeland 300

This self-supported Mountain Bike Time-Trial Route, covers 300km and 7,600 metres of climbing as it explores the off-road trails of the Lake District.

Although there are some roads, quiet lanes and gravel tracks, a mountain bike is the best bike for this route as there is plenty of challenging terrain and gradients too. Expect some hike-a-bike too.

WHERE: The route officially starts and ends in Cockermouth in the west, with long stay parking in the town centre, or the nearest stations are in Penrith and Carlisle, which are both on the West Coast main Line. From Penrith train station to the route near Pooley Bridge is around an 8km (5m) ride.
