Mint Gravel

160km / 100 mile with 3,900 metres of climbing of mixed terrain cycling route around the south Lakeland.

Starting in Kendal the route heads south, following the Lancaster Canal beyond Farleton Fell before starting it's anti-clockwise loop, passing over grassy fells towards and past the wind farms of Armistead and Lambrigg, then up to the radio masts at Whinfell, the highest point of the route. From here, there's a technical descent into Borrowdale, which leads us towards Longsleddale. There's a steep climb and fast descent from Sadgill towards Kentmere. Next the route heads towards the town of Windermere, then loops around Winster and Crook before heading south around Whitbarrow, before finally traveling north again back around to finish in Kendal.

Please understand that this is a tough 160km/100 mile route over sometimes rough and technical terrain. You'll know your own riding ability: There's no shame in hopping off the bike and walking any section you don't feel confident in riding!

The route only makes use of public rights of way: bridleways, byways, and roads. Approximately 50% of it is off-road, with the majority of the rest on smaller roads. The odd busier road is unavoidable, but we've kept these to a minimum and used them purely to get back to the more interesting off-road stuff as quickly as possible!
