Grand Guanche MTB, Canary Island

A MTB Tour of the Canary Islands using an unpaved route with considerable elevation gain and ferry journeys to link it all together.

Mainly double tracks but with a few rocky single tracks, sandy sections, short hike-a-bikes, and a minimal amount of tarmac to connect everything. Recommended bike: hardtail mountain bikes with low gearing and min 2.2″ wide tires.

The route is well connected by fast and frequent ferries summing up about 7 hours on board and a total cost of around 200€ and you can easily buy tickets online or directly at the harbour with no need to book in advance.

Logistics: Fly to Lanzarote – fly back from Tenerife South

The route starts in Lanzarote, just a 40km ride from Lanzarote airport.

The routes end in La Palma, La Gomera or El Hierro, small islands with no international flight connections. To fly back home, you must take the ferry back to Tenerife and fly from Tenerife South airport.

The route requires some planning in stages and resupplies, as it could be a long ride to the next town.

There are no natural water sources, so you must buy all your water.

Camping is recommended as an enriching experience but only allowed in camping areas. In need of an emergency shelter set up late, strike early and never start fires

Plenty of other accommodation options.
