This epic 554km (344 miles) route tackles nearly 6,000 metres of climbing along the way, as it passes along the faultline, through the centre of this beautiful and magical, but equally harsh countryside and is only accessible during a short window of the year when it isn’t covered by snow. Do not under estimate this ride, it's tough!Just below the Arctic Circle, this island is dominated by huge glaciers, ashen deserts, lava structures, offering a deserted and uninhabited plateau in its inland, between Akureyri in the north to Vik in the south. Weather is unpredictable and extreme, with wind being a big factor in which direction you should attempt to ride it, making logistics last minute and tricky. You will also need to be self-sufficient for food and bike repairs, and tackle numerous tough river corssings along the way too. The stunning scenery, colours, waterfalls and remote desolation make it a once in a life-time adevnture however.
