Empire State Trail, USA

In 2017, New York State launched the Empire State Trail to promote outdoor recreation, encourage healthy lifestyles, support community vitality, and bolster tourism-related economic development.

The 1,200km (750-mile) Empire State Trail showcases New York’s special places, diverse history, and iconic landscapes. 75 percent of the trail is on car-free paths, running from Battery Park on the southern tip of Manhattan, up through the Hudson Valley and the Adirondacks to the border with Canada. Another section runs from Albany, all along the Erie Canal, to Buffalo. In all, it’s the largest multiuse trail network in the country.
