White Rim Trail, Utah, USA

This 156km (97 mile) route begins on Shafer Canyon Road, in Utah, joining the White rim, to follow breathtaking plateaus along the Colorado and Green rivers via slickrock.

Gravel, dirt roads, with semi-technical rocky doubletrack can be ridden in either direction, but most prefer clockwise, leaving any vehicle at the Shafer Canyon lookout parking area.

There are reservable campsites along the route, which it is recommended you book, in advance and be aware that facilities, including water is scarce and most people drive and drop some supplies. It's certainly worth looking into supported rides .

Fun fact: The White Rim Road was constructed in 1950 by the Atomic Energy Commission to provide access to uranium miners so they could mine deposits for nuclear weapon production during the Cold War. The mines have long since been closed, but the road remains open to 4×4 vehicles and mountain bikers.
