Annapurna Circuit, Nepal

The Annapurna Circuit is an exceedingly popular trekking route in the Himalayas and tops out at one of the highest mountain passes in the world, Thorong La Pass at 5,416m (17,769 feet). Surrounded by some of the tallest mountains in the world, it attracts hikers and climbers. There is also a modified version of the route for cyclists too! It covers a challenging 386km (240 miles) with around 10,300 metres of climbing and will require a permit to ride (which includes a paper map of the route, which although made for hikers, but can be used for cycling).

Note: The official hiking route starts in Besisahar, but it makes sense to start in Pokhara by bike. The Annapurna Circuit Trek is a well-established route and for the most part there is only one road to follow. The bike route follows much of the same route as the hiking trail, but cyclists use the jeep track until Manang, after which it stops and you then follow the hiking trail. Be aware that it still includes some very tough terrain and high altitudes along the way.
