Stretching 700 kilometers (460 miles) from Dawson City in the Yukon Territory all the way to the tiny Arctic town of Tuktoyaktuk, this route is not for the faint-hearted.
Only (the last) 10km is paved, the rest is gravel road and one of the most isolated and rugged routes in North America, going deep into the wilderness where all roadside amenities vanish and phone signal.
The hard packed and well maintained gravel road winds its way through two mountain ranges, the Ogilvie and the Richardson; crosses the continental divide three times and traverses the Arctic Circle.
This Arctic adventure offers an extreme challenge, through endless tundra and towering peaks and is only for very experiuenced riders. You will need to be self-sufficient for long periods, pack plenty of warm gear (even in the summer).
Visit Government of the Northwest Territories for condition reports and info.
