Designed by Chris Burkhard, with a year of planning, scouting and dreaming of this perfect route that takes you thought the heart of icelands highlands, past ever major glacier and from its furthest Eastern Point to its furthest Western point, a whopping 975km (605 miles).
Beware: This is incredibly challenging terrain with glaciers, deserts, fjords, and countless river crossings in the country's empty interior highlands.
Chris and team rode it self-supported, carrying all necessary food and supplies, only stopping at en-route gas stations or huts with food available and stayed in remote mountain huts and cabins (and 1 camping) along the way, for a total 8.5 days.
Chris and team poured a lot of time and energy into it and hope others will enjoy the adevnture, but warn that you need to have proper river safety training and really know how to deal with mechanicals and medical issues because some of the route sis extremely remote and desolate. Just some of the rewards though include hot springs, glacial valleys, braided rivers and new volcanic flows.
