
Lady Aethelflaed’s Way is a 400km (250 miles) 3,600 meters (12,000ft) of ascent, and around 60% paved.
This circular cycling route that takes in the Avon and Kennet Canal, The Ridgeway, The Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, and then returns to the Ridgeway and Chilterns.It goes through Reading, Marlborough, Swindon, Cirencester, Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, Banbury, past Blenheim Palace, Oxford and Abingdon so there are lots of options for accommodation and public transport to get to a start point.
It lies to the North of Cycling UK’s King Alfred’s Way and mainly winds through territory ruled by Alfred’s daughter Aethelflaed as Lady of Mercia. Based on the National Cycle Network with additional off road sections, travelling through ancient and beautiful landscapes, charming villages and towns and interesting historical sites.
